The summer season is approaching, the time par excellence for motorhome trips, taking advantage of the fact that we have free days of vacation. It is also the time of year when temperatures are at their highest, and sometimes we experience the rigors of heat when traveling in these vehicles. Today we give you some small tricks to mitigate summer temperatures when traveling by motorhome and we propose 3 destinations if you want to escape the most extreme heat.
Today there are solutions to cool the interior of motorhomes, such as the chiller installation Viesa Holiday type (which works at 12V without the need to be connected to the electrical current and that Autocaravan Express, as the official installer, can provide you with) or air conditioner (for when we are connected to 220V). If this is not your case, it's time to look for other tricks.
- Una good ventilation: the opening of windows and skylights allows to establish inside the motorhome a crossed ventilation which can refresh the atmosphere quite a bit. Of course, remember that, outside motorhome areas and campsites, opening windows that exceed the perimeter of the vehicle is considered camping and we could expose ourselves to a fine. There is no problem opening the overhead skylights and the driver's and passenger's windows.
- Search shaded areas: this will prevent the vehicle from directly receiving the sun's rays and, therefore, the thermal sensation will be considerably less.
- Use the window blinds: if we close the blinds while we are outside, less sun will come in and this will help maintain a better interior temperature.
- Ventilators: Today we find different models of fans on the market that work with a 12V connection, which allows us to enjoy a little air inside the motorhome. Many of them work with a kind of clamp that allows us to install them in different areas of the vehicle.
- La bedding It is important: in summer it is advisable to choose cotton sheets, which allow better breathability and provide a fresher feeling than other materials.
And if these tricks are not enough, we always have the resource of look for slightly cooler destinations that allow us to escape from the heat. These are our proposals.
Picos de Europa
The mountain is always a good option and the National Park of the Picos de Europa It offers nature, beautiful landscapes and a very pleasant temperature in summer. Declared Biosphere Reserve, the space of the Park is shared by three Autonomous Communities: Asturias, Castilla y León (the province of León) and Cantabria, so we can choose from which area we want to approach it.
In the area you can enjoy different viewpoints with impressive views of the Cantabrian mountain range, beautiful mountain villages and monasteries, as well as hiking and other adventure sports. One of the hiking trails best known is that of Cares river, between the municipalities of Caín (in León) and Poncebos (in Asturias). Known as the Divine Throat, the Cares route will surprise you with its rocky landscapes and spectacular views.
To spend the night, in the León area you can opt for the beautiful motorhome area of Valdeon Inn.
Pyrenees
We continue with the north and the mountain and we go to the Pyrenees. The mountain chain that separates Spain from France offers multiple possibilities for motorhome tourism, both on the Spanish and French sides.
In the province of Huesca we find the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, where you can follow emblematic routes such as the Cola de Caballo or the Path of the Hunters; or the Valles Occidentales Natural Park, where you can visit beautiful villages, such as Ansó, or visit different “ibones”, as the mountain lakes created by the action of glaciers are known.
In the Catalan area, we have the High Pyrenees Natural Park, the largest protected natural space in this Autonomous Community and where we can visit the different valleys, such as the one in ÀneuThat of Thistles or the Saint Magdalena, with spectacular towns and nature.
You can also cross the border into France to visit the Pyrenees National Park and visit places as surprising as the Pont d'Espagne or the Cirque de Gavarnie.
In all these places you will find motorhome areas and campsites prepared for our vehicles, such as the tax area (close to Ordesa), that of Rialp (in the province of Lleida) or that of Cauterets (in France).
French brittany
And if you dare to cross the border, you can continue further north of the Gallic country, to the region of Brittany. It is the region located more to the northwest of our neighbors. It is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and offers endless tourist possibilities: towns, beaches, hiking trails, cultural activities and a fantastic temperature in summer…if you're running away from the heat, of course.
You can visit towns like Vitré, Josselin, Dinan or Saint-Malo; know the legend of the Wizard Merlin in the Broceliande Forest, tour the spectacular Pink Granite Coast following the Path of the Customsmen; discover prehistoric remains in Carnac; or reach the French "Finisterre", saying goodbye to the day with a spectacular sunset in the point du Raz.
And you cannot leave the area without knowing the amazing Mont Saint Michel, which separates the regions of Brittany and Normandy. It is a rocky islet surrounded by a bay, the scene of the largest tides in Europe. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the mount is home to a majestic abbey.
France has a extensive network of motorhome areas, both free and paid, as well as private spaces in farms, restaurants and vineyards, adhered to the brand FrancePassion. Also, many small towns have free overnight areas and very affordable municipal campsites for our vehicles.
