The Easter holidays are one of the most anticipated dates for a motorhome getaway. The more pleasant temperatures that spring brings invite us to take our vehicles and set out to visit some of the towns, cities and natural spaces that Spain offers us. We have chosen four of them that you will surely love. These are our 4 destinations for a motorhome getaway at Easter.
Asturias, Natural Paradise
Its motto already says it: Asturias, Natural Paradise... And it is that a visit to the Principality always offers an infinite number of options to choose from to enjoy an unforgettable vacation: beach, mountains, gastronomy, sports or culture, whatever we are looking for, we are going to find it.
If we are looking for nature, Asturias has the largest number of Biosphere Reserves in the entire Spanish territory, seven: the Picos de Europa National Park, the Eo River, Oscos and Terras de Burón, the Fuentes del Narcea Natural Park , Degaña and Ibias, the Somiedo Natural Park, the Ubiñas-La Mesa Natural Park, the Redes Natural Park and the Ponga Natural Park. You have where to choose!
Sea lovers will be able to enjoy beautiful coastal towns, such as Cudillero, Llanes, Luarca or Ribadesella, or some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, such as Silencio, Rodiles or the peculiar Gulpiyuri beach, separated by rocks and the vegetation that receives water through an underground conduit.
And you cannot leave there without trying one of its culinary specialties, such as fabada, its cheeses, cider or the well-known cachopo.
To spend the night, you have areas in different populations, such as Cudillero, Llanes or Navia, as well as in its two main cities, Oviedo and Gijón.
If you like to visit towns, you should know that Cantabria has 6 of them included in the list of the Most Beautiful Towns in Spain: Liérganes, Santillana del Mar, Bárcena Mayor, Potes, Carmona and Mogroviejo. Each of them is worth a visit, so… you may have to choose.
If walking is your thing, you can choose to discover the Camino Lebaniego, a route declared a UNESCO Heritage Site that runs for 72 kilometers through the territories from San Vicente de la Barquera to the Monastery of Santo Toribio, through natural landscapes of great beauty. If you do the pilgrimage route, know that the Camino Lebaniego has a specific credential and a document accrediting the pilgrimage, called the Lebaniega.
And if you go with the little ones in the house, they will surely be delighted to discover the Cabárceno Nature Park, a space naturalized by the hand of man, based on the primitive beauty of its karstic landscape that is home to more than 120 species animals from the five continents, living in semi-freedom. Quite a show!
To spend the night, you have different areas, but we especially recommend the one in Santillana del Mar, due to its location and proximity to the center of this beautiful town.
Cadiz, the pearl of the south
"Cádiz wants to see you", reads the Tourism motto of this Andalusian province... And we to her! Because, although it is well known for its beaches, we cannot forget its other charms, beautiful towns, exquisite cuisine, traditional wineries, nature and a cultural offer that will take us days to enjoy.
A must-see is its capital, the "Silver Cup", considered the oldest city in the West and with a great history within its walls. Its Cathedral, visible from the sea, especially its dome covered with golden tiles, the Caleta beach at sunset, escorted by the Castles of San Sebastián and Santa Catalina; or its historic center with narrow streets and small squares and with popular neighborhoods such as La Viña, el Mentidero, Santa María (true home of flamenco singing) and El Pópulo, are just some of its attractions.
We can also visit some of its coastal towns, such as Conil de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María or Sanlúcar de Barrameda where, in addition, we can enjoy its wine cellars and its magnificent cuisine, especially fish and shellfish. Or, why not, the white villages inland, such as Setenil de las Bodegas or Olvera, whose architecture will leave you speechless.
And if you like nature, you can choose to visit natural spaces, such as Breña and Marismas de Barbate, the Natural Park of the Strait or the Sierra de Grazalema.
you have overnight areas in many parts of the province, including Los Caños de Meca, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Tarifa, Olvera or Chipiona.
Toledo, the city of three cultures
We finish our recommendations in Toledo. Declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1986, the capital of Castilla-La Mancha preserves the image of a medieval city sheltered in its towers and walls. Known as the City of the Three Cultures, due to the peaceful coexistence of Christians, Muslims and Jews for centuries, Toledo offers within its walls a spectacular display of the history of Spanish art.
Located on a promontory and surrounded by the meander that the Tagus river makes as it passes through the city, Toledo offers a spectacular display of the history of Spanish art within its walls. From its main entrance, the Puerta de Bisagra, to the San Martín Bridge and the Alcántara Bridge, there are numerous places that can be visited: the Cathedral, the Alcázar facing the Tagus, the Cristo de la Luz Mosque, the synagogues of Santa María la Blanca and del Tránsito, the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, the Palace of Fuensalida, the Convent of San Gil or the Museum of Santa Cruz are just some of them. Art lovers can also contemplate, in the Church of Santo Tomé, the emblematic "Burial of Count Orgaz" by El Greco, or visit the museum dedicated to this painter.
Do not leave without tasting its rich gastronomy, especially its sweets, such as marzipan, Toledanas or Empiñonadas.
And if you like theme parks, very close to Toledo you can visit the Puy du Fou, a place to travel through history with great shows, various period towns and endless corners where you can taste local gastronomic products, as well of the acclaimed night show "El sueño de Toledo". The park season begins on April 1, but if you are going to visit it, do not forget to book a ticket.
In the city of Toledo there is no motorhome area, but you can spend the night in the spacious Safont car park, at the entrance of the city.
And, as we always tell you, if you don't have your own motorhome, you can rent one of our vehicles to enjoy visiting each of these destinations. Enter the section "Rental" and choose the model that best suits your circumstances.
