Travel in motor home is to do it with a real house in tow, in every way, including the kitchen. In the few square meters that the interior of these vehicles offers, we can have a kitchen with all the comforts, where to prepare recipes worthy of any chef. Here are a few tips and tricks to enjoy cooking when traveling by motorhome.
A fully equipped kitchen
Many of the motorhomes on the market have a full gas-powered kitchen, as well as a sink and refrigerator. Some of them even have an oven and even an extractor hood. And, of course, they have storage cabinets to transport all those cookware that we may need to prepare any of the dishes we make at home.
What are the utensils that we should not forget in our motor home? Besides the basics, like plates, cutlery (don't forget a good set of knives!), pans and pots, there are other elements that can be very useful when cooking. Let's see what they are.
- Una cutting board: indispensable tool for cutting vegetables, fruits, cheeses, meats or fish. They are made of different materials, although our advice is to opt for one that is light and manageable.
- Un wringer: it will be very practical when washing vegetables, draining pasta, etc. Our recommendation is that you opt for a foldable one, as it will be easier to store.
- Una toaster: enjoying a good breakfast, toast included, inside the motorhome is also possible. In the market you can find different models that work by placing them on gas fires, so that you do not have to depend on electricity if we are not in a place with access to it.
- Un oven: before we said that some motorhomes are already equipped with an oven installed in the kitchen but, if this is not the case, we can always opt for a pot-oven. It is a container that is placed on the gas stove and is fitted with a lid, which allows you to cook any food… including pastries!
- Una barbecueAlthough the use of barbecues is somewhat restrictive, especially in the summer due to the risk of fires, it never hurts to carry one to be able to use it in the permitted places.
If you do not have a motorhome and you rent any of the available models en Express motorhome, our colleagues will offer you a kitchenware kit so that you can cook during your holidays.
Organization… and local products
We cannot forget that the space that a motorhome offers us is smaller than that at home, so a good organization will be key at the time of cooking. Our advice is that you wear a set of kitchen "basics", such as salt, sugar, spices, olive oil, vinegar, canned vegetables and broths, which can serve as a base for other preparations, while fresh products can be purchased during the trip, in local markets, according to the needs of each day, or what you plan for several days.
One of the advantages of vehicle type is that with them we usually practice itinerant tourism, which allows us to access different local products and specialties that can enrich our culinary culture and our repertoire in the kitchen. Don't stop trying new ingredients wherever you travel!
Varied recipes ... but saving utensils
We love visiting restaurants in the places we go, but having the possibility to cook our own recipes in the motorhome makes us enjoy a more varied diet, in addition to being available at all times.
From salads to pasta dishes, going through meat and fish, the possibilities are endless, although our advice is opt for those recipes which, regardless of whether they are more or less simple, need fewer utensils to be made, especially if you are not staying at a campsite. Why do we say this? Well, because we cannot forget that the water tanks are limited and the more "pots" we use, the more we will have to scrub and the more water we will spend.
