In this first installment, we take a tour of the most beautiful towns in Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and the Mediterranean area.

La Association of "The most beautiful towns in Spain”Aims to show the world the wonderful towns located throughout the Spanish geography. These are places of great beauty, full of history and culture, and with great attractions for travelers, especially in those aspects related to tradition.
The Association promotes preferably rural areas y small municipalities, since one of the requirements to be able to appear on this list is that the population does not exceed 15.000 inhabitants.
Almost a hundred towns are included in this list, which covers both coastal and inland towns, all of them with a common denominator: the charm and beauty of its landscapes, which invite arrive with our motorhome and dive into its streets and to enjoy its gastronomy and its people.
A walk in the south
Andalusia has 15 localities included in this select list. Among them, it stands out Setenil de las Bodegas, one of the most unique towns in the White Villages of the Sierra de Cádiz, where vestiges of its Almohad past are preserved, and where its cave houses, built on natural cavities used as houses.
Another of the Andalusian towns cataloged among the most beautiful in Spain is Capileira, in the heart of Granada's Alpujarra, within the Sierra Nevada National Park. In fact, its privileged location, at almost 1.500 meters of altitude, allows you to enjoy incredible panoramic views of Cerro Mulhacén. Its historical framework is declared a Site of Cultural Interest, in the category of Historical Complex, so it is well worth a visit.
And getting closer to the coast, we can enjoy Mojácar, in the province of Almería. Its white houses hanging from the mountain invite you to get lost in its streets, while the beach area will allow us to relax for a while before finishing the trip.
Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura, the charm of the interior
If we go up a little, we can enjoy some of the 7 towns in Castilla-La Mancha and 5 in Extremadura that can boast of having the title of the most beautiful in Spain.
In Castilla-La Mancha we highlight Alcalá del Júcar, Located in the La Manchuela region, in Albacete. It was declared a Historic-Artistic site in 1982 and it is not surprising, since it is one of the most picturesque towns in the province. Many of its houses are excavated in the mountains and to this must be added the spectacular landscapes of the Hoz del Júcar. To not miss it!
If you are theater lovers, you can combine beauty and culture by visiting Almagro, in the province of Ciudad Real, famous for its Corral de Comedias, the only one that has been preserved intact and active from the early seventeenth century to the present day. Although it hosts cultural activities throughout the year, the celebration of the Classical Theater Festival stands out each year.
As for Extremadura, of its 5 towns included in the list, we highlight 2: Trujillo, in Cáceres, and Olivenza, in Badajoz. The first of them, birthplace of the conqueror Francisco Pizarro, has a magnificent monumental and landscape heritage. For its part, Olivenza, located next to the Guadiana river and of Templar origin, will surprise us with its Gothic, Manueline, Renaissance and Baroque heritage.
Through Mediterranean lands
In search of the Mediterranean light, we find different towns in the Valencian Community and in Catalonia that are part of this select list. Among the 5 towns in the Valencian Community that hold this title, we want to highlight two: El Castell de Guadalest, in Alicante, and Peñíscola, in Castellón.
As a curiosity, The Castell de Guadalest It is divided into two neighborhoods, El Castillo, literally hanging on top of the rock and protected by the old wall, which retains its medieval air, and El Arrabal, already at the foot of the mountain. The Castle neighborhood is accessed through a tunnel dug in the same rock. As to PeñíscolaIt is, perhaps, one of the best-known towns in the area thanks to its Templar castle, known as the Castle of Papa Luna, and a beautiful old town that delves into the blue waters of the Mediterranean.
To finish this first part of our particular motorhome tour through the most beautiful towns in Spain, we arrived at Bagergue, in the province of Lleida, and the only Catalan town included in this list. Located in the middle Valle de Aran, stands out for its natural and scenic wealth. Its cobbled streets and its architecture, typical of mountain villages, will surely make you fall in love.
